We understand that schools are in a difficult position when it comes to choosing a wireless network; everybody you see will tell you that their solution is best, and just why it will be perfect for your school.
At Quest we are different. As an independent wireless company we work with a number of product manufacturers, utilising each product’s strengths in the areas where they excel. In schools we have chosen Xirrus as our standard deployment.
The innovative design of the Xirrus wireless array makes it perfect for a school environment, where a number of factors have to be considered;
1) Capacity – schools require capacity networks, unlike many environments that may be a similar size and density. Schools require everyone to log on and log off at the start and end of every lesson, which puts great strain on the wireless infrastructure. The Xirrus array features numerous technologies that deliver more bandwidth per user than any other solution, thus ensuring that at all times the classroom experience is provided for exceptionally.
2) Cabling – often schools are an amalgam of disparate buildings that have grown into their current use over time. They can be difficult to cable, and even if it is straight-forward the infrastructure can be expensive to prepare for the amount of access points needed in a “standard” network. As the array has anywhere from four to sixteen radios built in, we can offer a high capacity network with only 25% of the devices. In turn this means 75% less infrastructure, switch ports and installation time, all of which translates into a financial and practical benefit for the school. At Quest we use our own in-house engineers to install cable runs on a cost-effective basis to maximise your budget.
3) Conflict – wireless conflicts and interference can have a massive impact on the performance of your network. With wireless solution it is vital to have a well planned network, as poorly deployed AP’s can often devastate performance. Quality is of the utmost importance. As Xirrus use high-gain directional antennas we achieve twice the range with four times the coverage of other solutions per device. This in turn allows us to effectively channel-plan a solution to the school’s advantage, fine-tuning the network to minimise interference.
How the Xirrus Guarantee Works
A Xirrus guarantee works in two ways. Firstly it provides a five year hardware warranty, so you can be sure your investment will remain in place for some time. Secondly, our solutions are drawn up after a thorough active site survey so that we can guarantee that if you do not achieve the level of coverage we detail in our proposal, we will give you the rest of the equipment you require to get that coverage free of charge. As we go into detail about your requirements both now and in the future, we are able to design a network that will withstand tomorrow’s requirements as well as today’s.
